Sapienta Research & Development Department
The Sapienta R&D Department is a collaborative hub for educators, researchers, and all who share a passion for advancing learning. Here, ideas turn into action: we investigate, test, and refine strategies that shape the future of education. By engaging with our team, you can take part in ongoing research or propose new areas of inquiry, helping us explore how education can nurture curiosity, independence, and genuine intellectual growth.
Our Mission
To cultivate students who are both academically strong and intellectually curious, whatever form their curiosity takes. Our research seeks to enhance Sapienta’s capacity to design environments where curiosity, critical thinking, and independent thought flourish naturally.
Strategic Role
The R&D Department examines how to design learning spaces that encourage students to think deeply, question freely, and engage critically. Through data-informed inquiry and collaboration, we ensure Sapienta’s pedagogical methods and resources continuously evolve to realize this vision.
Why Sapienta R&D Matters
Our Research & Development department is the heartbeat of Sapienta’s methodology. It ensures our academy is always evolving—adapting to new findings, listening to feedback from students and collaborators, and refining our practices in real time. We don’t claim to have a fixed “perfect” system; instead, we commit to a living & evolving approach where our methods and resources are always improving. This is, at its core, what an stand for: the constant pursuit of better understanding.

Live Research Projects
Our research is never hidden behind closed doors. On this page, you can explore a selection of active studies led by Sapienta’s R&D team and our network of contributors. Each project is designed to answer real questions about how students learn best, how curiosity can be nurtured, and how independent academic character can be strengthened. Even without logging in, you can follow along with our progress, see who’s leading the work, and understand the questions driving each study.
Implementing Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) in Classrooms and Tutoring Contexts
This ongoing research project explores how the principles of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) can be effectively implemented in both classroom and one-on-one tutoring environments. Conducted in collaboration with a professor from McGill University’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics (Education Program), the project aims to observe, document, and analyze how students respond to RME-based instruction at the secondary level.
Through qualitative and quantitative observations, the study examines how realistic contexts, guided reinvention, and mathematization influence students’ engagement, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving autonomy.
Findings from this project will be published on Sapienta Academy’s R&D page to contribute to the growing body of research on mathematics learning and teaching in the Canadian context. The ultimate goal is to bridge research and practice—creating classrooms and tutoring sessions where students experience mathematics as a meaningful, creative, and human endeavor.
